Imagine you’re the applicant in a job interview. After asking about your skills, ambitions, goals and motivation for your potential future job, the job interviewer has one more question for you. He wants to know how you would describe yourself, as being more rational or emotional? What would you say?
Well, before you base your answer on the assumption that companies prize analytics over emotions, you might consider this first. A recent study shows that only about a quarter of people consider themselves as emotional communicators. And yet, when it comes to goal setting in a professional or personal context, experiencing emotions about your goal is crucial to its success. And isn’t work defined by achieving goals and targets? Another research took this question one step further. They asked employees and managers wether they approached their goals with a rational and analytical mindset or wether they felt strong emotions about their goals. To their surprise, the responses were 50/50 split. But the respondents who felt strong emotions felt twice as much urgency to achieve their goals than those who approached their goals in a rational way.
So, the best way to predict wether you will achieve your 2023 goals is just by asking yourself: how badly to I want this? Or even better: why do we want to achieve this? Instead of soul searching, we went for number searching on the internet and found some interesting goal-setting trends for entrepreneurs and companies. Forbes asked a panel of Human Resources councils what goals companies are prioritizing in 2023 and these 12 were labeled as top priority.
