CAN YOU TELL A BIT MORE ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHAT YOU DO?
My name is Lauren Olaerts, I'm a small business owner from Limburg, I have been running my own beauty salon for the past 8 years and during Covid I started Studio Lao (@studiolao), that was a way for me to express my creative side in the form of minimalistic artwork, with a focus on organic shapes.
I have some experience in property renovation, I started my business in a small room in my parents’ house. After I saved up some money I bought an old grocery store and made it into my own apartment and beauty salon. Two years ago I sold the apartment and bought my dream home with my partner, which we also renovated and where I did the interior design. I started using the space as a way to showcase the artwork for Studio Lao’s social media, that ultimately lead me to renting out our home for other people who needed a place to create their social media content. I’m also in the process of expanding the atelier for Studio Lao, which I also plan to put on the Cocom app. so stay tuned.
WERE YOU ALREADY FAMILIAR WITH THE CONCEPT OF SPACE SHARING?
I was already familiar with the concept, but on a very small scale. During the renovation of our home I posted a lot of progress pictures and videos of our home improvements on my socials, this led to a lot of great feedback from some of my followers and some even asking me to use my house as a space in which they can make content for their socials or promote their products as small business owners. After seeing COCOM’s advertisement on the VTM news, I thought it would be a great way to have someone else take care of all the bookings and get some more exposure for my artwork as well.
HOW CAN SPACE SHARING BE USEFUL IN YOUR JOB?
I have my beauty salon and my art studio built-in in our home so I spend a lot of time in the house, that way, when someone wants to book our space I can always make sure I’m available as a host.
I also use social media a lot for my business. I think space sharing is a great way of getting a network of different settings to promote my work and get more exposure for my art.
HOW IMPORTANT IS SPACE TO YOU?
My mind is always looking for improvement, whether it’s in our home decorations or in my work. So I spend a lot of time looking at other houses and settings as an inspiration. I want my home to be a space where I can have peace of mind, that’s why I choose to have a very minimalistic vibe as my interior design. I absolutely love it when I get really positive feedback from friends and people who book our space as a setting.
WHAT’S YOUR EXPERIENCE ON USING THE APP SO FAR?
The app is very easy to use, you can see the developers spend a lot of time to make the app practical. The booking system works great and it’s so easy to find a space that suits your needs.
WHO WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THE COCOM APP TO?
I would recommend the app to anyone who is looking for a space to fit their needs, whether it’s for content creation, business meetings or just leisure activities.
I would also recommend it to anyone who has a space to share, but just doesn’t have the network for it. It’s a really easy way to get some exposure for your space and gain an extra source of income.
